Original pyrography maritime art on wood of a vintage gaff cutter sailing yacht.
Based on the racing yacht 'Marigold', "A Cloud of Sail" is a pyrography artwork of a vintage gaff-rigged cutter. Based on a photo I took of Marigold some years ago when she was visiting Plymouth Sound, I have drawn this pyrography artwork on an A4 size panel of beech-faced plywood. It is intended as a study of the enormous amount of sail these old boats could put aloft, rather than of the hull shape and structure. That said, I have kept the hull true to the actual ship; the straight stempost, graceful counter-stern and mast positioned well forward in the hull, even the anchor ranged on the gunwhale ready to deploy in case it all goes "Pete Tong" !
I love these old ships. The gaff cutters were hard work for the crew, and I confess my affection for them isnt based on my first hand experience. The only vintage boat I have sailed on is another Camper and Nicholson design "Dimpsy Girl", a bermudan sloop, and SO much easier to handle!
This artwork is approximately 215 x 310mm (A4), and is unframed.
It is drawn on 3mm beech-faced plywood, and is sealed with 3 coats of varnish.
Indoor use only.
