Drawn on a section of Holly log, this pyrography artwork of an Avro Vulcan aircraft appears to have cracked the wood as she flew by! Set left of centre, it appears to be about to fly off the wood on a secret mission! The wood has several small natural splits, and I have kept the tree-bark in its natural state.
Built by Avro and powered by 4 Rolls Royce Olympus gas turbines, the Avro Vulcan was designed as a high speed, high altitude strategic bomber for the Cold War, and operated from 1956 right up to 1984. Usually armed with nuclear weapons, the aircraft was just as capabe of carrying conventional bombs - a feature which proved useful during the 1982 Falklands Conflict as the only long-range aircraft capable of flying the 16,000 mile return flight at the time. Later Vulcan conversions included maritime surveillance and aerial tanker versions.
I have signed it with my initials in the lower right of the artwork, it is sealed and finished with 4 coats of satin varnish on both sides and comes with a 'd' ring wall hanger.
