Pyrography wood wall art of vintage traction engine "Little Dawn.
THIS ARTWORK MEASURES aprox 215MM X 165MM (8 1/2" X 6 1/2").
Drawn on a section of Yew log, I have set the drawing on the wood so that it follows the growth-rings as much as possible. The wood has a small natural split, and I have kept the tree-bark in its natural state.
I have signed it with my initials in the lower right of the artwork, it is sealed and finished with 4 coats of satin varnish on both sides and comes with a 'd' ring wall hanger.
I have used a little colour to highlight the white-painted roof, and the gold-leaf support posts and brass features such as the wheel hubs. As with all my artworks, I work from photos of the subject, and I took this one at the Driffield Steam Fair last year.
Showmans engines, as the name implies, were used at fairgrounds and agricultural shows. The traction engine would have been used to haul the fairground ride on the road from show to show, then the front-mounted generator, driven by a belt from the steam engine, would have powered the lights and early electrically powered rides.
